FLYING & GLIDING

Joining the Air Cadets opens up lots of opportunities, including the chance to fly!  It’s our aim to get you airborne as often as possible, as a passenger in a light aircraft, a glider or even on-board RAF aircraft such as the Typhoon fast-jet or a Chinook helicopter.

Flying

All Air Cadets are given the opportunity to fly in the Grob Tutor 115E aircraft at one of 12 Air Experience Flights (AEF) around the country.

Opportunity Flights

Cadets are occasionally given the rare opportunity to fly in RAF service aircraft in addition to AEF flying.

Gliding

As well as flying in powered aircraft, cadets will also have the opportunity to fly in the Grob Viking glider aircraft at one of numerous Volunteer Gliding Squadrons around the UK.

Scholarships

There are scholarships available to cadets for both flying and gliding.

Both flying and gliding scholarships could lead to cadets going solo in both aircraft before they are legally allowed to drive a car on the road in the UK.

Simulator

1924 have built their own flight simulator which supplements classroom training.
